Staying Safe at Disney World
Disney World spends a great deal of money and effort to ensure that guests stay safe, so once you have booked your Disney World tickets and have found your great discounts – including your fabulous Disney World discounts, Sea World discounts, and Universal Discounts – you do not have to worry about safety too much. However, all major attractions do have some dangers, so you might want to follow these safety tips:
1. Do not allow young children to wander off by themselves. Although there are guards all over the parks, Disney attracts many strangers and large crowds. If you want to take some time off, there are many children’s supervised areas as well as babysitting services available.
2. Bring a rain coat or mini umbrella with you. Sudden rain is not unheard of in Florida, and you do not want a sudden rain shower to ruin your day. Bring extra cash for an umbrella if you do not want to carry rain gear with you.
3. Stay cool. To avoid overheating, wear a light-colored or white shirt as well as sunglasses and hat.
4. Stay hydrated. Dehydration can lead to heat stroke, weakness, and fatigue, and it can creep up on you if you are going on rides and not watching your water intake. Drink lots of water and avoid sodas, tea and coffee, which encourage dehydration.
5. Cool off. Walking around in the late morning and early evening can expose you to a lot of UV rays and can expose you to the risks of heat stroke as well. You might want to take a dip in a pool or fountain at this time or you may want to break up your outdoor activities with indoor attractions during this time.
6. Keep your valuables in a safe place. Theft is rare in Disney World but you may wish to keep valuables locked in your car, just for peace of mind. Do not leave valuables unattended while you go on a ride and do not display large amounts of cash in public. You may want to wear a money belt to keep your cash safe.
7. Write down your child’s name, your own name, your cell phone number, and where you are staying on a card. Make sure that your child has the card with them at all times and teach your child to show the card to a Cast Member if he or she becomes lost. If you lose track of your child, tell a Cast Member at once. Agree with your child and other group members to meet someone obvious – such as in front of Cinderella Castle – if you become separated.
8. Follow the rules and listen to Cast Members. Some rides have restrictions. For example, some rides do not allow pregnant guests, children under a certain age, or people with heart conditions to participate. Never try to circumvent these rules – they are there for your own protection. Similarly, if a Cast Member tells you or your group to avoid doing something, do listen and obey.
